Clinical Data Quality, Vienna

About AVERMATIC

AVERMATIC is a Vienna-based startup focused on one specific problem: silent failures in clinical data pipelines.

We started with a straightforward observation. Hospitals run dozens of HL7 interfaces between their clinical systems. When those interfaces work correctly, nobody notices. When they break — and they do, regularly — the failure is usually invisible until it causes a downstream problem that somebody stumbles into.

We thought that was a problem worth solving with software, not with more manual processes.

Our Approach

We are not building a broad platform and hoping to find customers. We are solving one well-defined problem for one well-defined buyer.

Product, not consulting. We build a monitoring layer that works the same way across every hospital, not a custom project that needs to be rebuilt from scratch for each engagement.

Start with one interface. Prove value. Then expand. We do not ask anyone to commit to a large-scale rollout before they have seen what the platform finds on their most problematic HL7 stream.

Document everything. Every check, every alert, every decision. Not because compliance requires it — although it often does — but because that is how you actually improve operational reliability over time.

Why Clinical Data

There are many companies working on data quality. Most of them focus on business data — CRM records, marketing analytics, financial reporting. That is a legitimate market, but it is not where we work.

Clinical data is different. The systems are older, the standards are specific, and the consequences of failure carry more weight. A billing error is expensive. A clinical data error can disrupt care delivery or compromise reporting accuracy.

HL7 v2.x has been the backbone of clinical integration for decades. It continues to be deeply embedded in hospital infrastructure, even as FHIR extends and modernizes the interoperability landscape around it. But the monitoring infrastructure around HL7 has not kept up with the complexity of modern hospital IT environments.

That is where we come in.

Based in Vienna

AVERMATIC operates under EU law and processes data within European infrastructure. We build for a market where privacy, data governance, and regulatory compliance are not optional — they are the baseline.

Vienna has a strong healthcare IT ecosystem and a tradition of taking standards seriously. It felt like the right place to build what we are building.

The Team

Serge Maleev

Founder

Serge comes from a design and systems-thinking background.

He spent years working on complex spatial and operational projects across world, where he developed a habit of looking at how systems connect - and where those connections tend to break.

AVERMATIC grew out of a specific frustration: watching organizations rely on infrastructure that nobody monitors systematically. Clinical data pipelines stood out as a particularly clear case - high volume, high stakes, and almost no visibility into what is actually happening at the interface level.

Serge handles product direction, positioning, and business development. He is based in Vienna and focused on bringing the right technical partner on board to build the first working version of the platform.

Advisors

We are actively building an advisory network in healthcare IT and clinical integration. If you have relevant domain experience and are interested in an advisory role, we would welcome a conversation.

Intellectual Property

A Gebrauchsmuster (Austrian utility model) has been filed covering the core mechanism: automated detection of structural and completeness deviations in HL7 v2.x message streams, including reference profiling by sender and message type.

This is not a broad platform patent. It is a focused protection of the specific detection approach that AVERMATIC is built around.
